FROM WALL STREET TO HIGH TECH

BY CHRISTOPHER PACE

I have spent over 25 years in the financial services world, where the ability to keep sensitive internal and client information private is critical and required. With the advent of work from home or anywhere, this has caused a plethora of security and economic risks for organizations who suffer security breaches, or have their communications intercepted. It is just not safe to communicate privately using regular e-mail or calls or video meeting services that were originally designed to be easily used by the general public, and not corporate use.  That’s why most security-conscious corporations prohibit their employees from using consumer-oriented services. There is also the all-too-common problem that the popular corporate video platforms are difficult for employees to use, or even worse, that connection or video quality is sub-par.

These issues, combined with the now daily occurrence of cyberattacks and “intrusions”, make it clear that organizations need better communications solutions that incorporate security, ease-of-use, and ultra-high quality in one platform.

Problem Solved.  Mercury from Secured Communications enables professionals to communicate and share files while traveling or working from home, as securely and easily as if they were working in their corporate offices. From a desktop, or on the road using Mercury’s smart mobile applications, one can easily, privately:

1.Host high-definition video meetings;

2.Make high fidelity calls;

3.Press one button to turn a call into a full-featured meeting;

4.Message individuals or groups; and

5.Share files securely.

BACKGROUND INFO – from my experiences so far

At the start of the pandemic, many organizations had to scramble to address the immediate need to enable work from home (WFH) for their employees. Unfortunately, the only communications services that were readily available at the time were either consumer-oriented and not secure, or they were add-ons to difficult-to-use, overly-complex corporate platforms. Many had, and still have mediocre video/audio quality, as one can see by watching video feeds on television that break up or drop off on a regular basis.  As a result, some professionals have resorted to subscribing to their own video meeting services for their own accounts on their work and/or personal devices. This has especially been the case when they have been prohibited by their employers from using certain well-known video services because they are not secure. As a result, this has created further cyber security risks for organizations.

Fortunately, in the middle of 2020, Secured Communications’ highly-secure Mercury platform (high definition video, high fidelity audio, messaging and file-sharing) was made available to corporations and other vetted organizations. These are the same communications services that have been used for years by some of the most demanding customers in the world: global counter-terrorism and public safety professionals.

Having now hosted many Mercury Meetings with professionals in a wide variety of industries for over seven months now, I have found many to be surprised by the clarity of the video and audio. I am no longer surprised when participants enter meetings, to find them first staring curiously at their screens and their questioning, “This is so clear, how can I get this?”. They have found Mercury Meetings easy to access and appreciate the fact that Mercury does not access the data on their devices to sell to outside parties.
