Messaging Layer Security (MLS) – MLS is next generation end-to-end-encryption (E2EE) security layer that encrypts each individual message with a changing encryption key. This allows for Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) and future secrecy, meaning that every message is encrypted separately, unlike other platforms, thus increasing Mercury security. Mercury is the FIRST to market product with this type and level of security.

 

Asynchronous Ratcheting Tree (ART) – ART is the E2EE group messaging protocol that allows users to message asynchronously even if someone is not online and allows scalability for large groups and organizations. Other commercially available E2EE protocols do not allow for this level of scalability and security.  For example, the less secured protocols (other consumer products on the market today) send the decryption key along with the message which leaves you vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks, allowing them to eavesdrop on your future conversation. ART does not rely on sending the decryption key or making multiple copies of it, and this is how we achieve greater security and performance for scalability.

 

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – MFA is a secure login that requires at least two forms of identity, increasing security and confirming identity. These include something you know (such as a password), something you have (such as your device), and as the most secure option - who you are (biometrics using Touch ID or Face ID). We support Google Authenticator, portable security keys, Face ID, Touch ID and Windows Hello.

 

Administrative Policies – Mercury contains a robust set of owner controls and features for organizations of all types.  They set access limitations to administrators, users, and guests down to individual devices, as well as policies for passwords, group posting, data retention and much more.
